Antimicrobial resistance patterns and bacterial profiling among dental caries patients

The study examined dental caries prevalence and antibiotic resistance patterns in Pakistan. Out of 1,000 subjects, 67.6% were males and 32.4% females, with 42.6% aged 5-20 years. Most pathogenic bacteria were found in dental caries samples, with streptococcus mutans being the most common. Male patients were more affected, and illiterate patients had more caries. Antibiotic sensitivity tests showed most bacterial isolates were highly resistant to ampicillin, ciprofloxacin, and vancomycin.
